One of the big trends of 2013 was achieving viral status, but Cheezburger founder and CEO Ben Huh argued against a viral-first strategy during his discussion at the 2013 Visual Revolution Summit. Instead, he said that going viral is not a tactic – it is the outcome rather than the end goal of creating consistent content.

“Virality is super hard to manufacture or predict,” he said. “It is better for you to invest your time and effort to create a process that makes marketing more consistent than to try and create something to go viral. The nature of virality and what most people sell today as viral isn’t actually viral. It’s channel distribution.”
